Many of the politicians and news outlets today, openly or privately, dehumanize and marginalize the incarcerated and aid in the creation and implementation of policies and procedures designed to further reduce the conditions and minds of the incarcerated. The Michigan Congressional Establishment has removed from prisons, almost every positive and transformative tool the incarcerated at one time or another had at their disposal. These tools helped to aid in the growth, development, and transformation of the incarcerated so they could become more than what brought them/us to prison. The Media perpetuates the sentiment of the politicians by claiming that crime is so out of control that we need more police and more prisons. They rarely talk about the real issues like poverty, inadequate healthcare, the uneven distribution of wealth, and mental health as being major components for crime.
